Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Warriors Group

Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a wide array of personalities, and a exciting storyline including celestial beings, fiends, and malevolent powers expanding in influence within Dol-Makjar.

Heads-up: Spoilers for the third episode of this adventure lie ahead.

The Warrior Group Introduced

The latest chapter ended with a major cliffhanger and revealed the initial group of characters who will separate from the main group to begin their independent quest, apart from the additional parties.

The combat-focused team includes the determined fighter (portrayed by Travis), the agile character (the talented performer), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie Daymond).

The Reason for Division

Considering a large ensemble, it was clear from the start that maintaining everyone at a single group would be impossible.

That’s why, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Introduction, intertwining the characters’ stories before dividing into three separate parties: Warriors, Planners, and Seekers.

What Defines the Soldiers Table

According to the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who prefer a classically intense fight-heavy gameplay experience where diplomatic options are few and far between.

At first glance, characters like the hesitant healer the cleric might seem mismatched, but the developments of episode 3 show why these five characters are best suited for the Soldiers table.

Reasons to Leave

For one thing, the group has a clear idea where to proceed after a intense opening clash with the enemy group.

An old friend of the deceased character—whose death initiated the story’s plot—used the enemy for his own means, invading the secret base, attacking the rogue, and taking all the magical artifacts to auction.

The antagonist then paid off his debts and fled to a secure base in the remote area, above the urban center, with Cyd hot on his heels.

Character Drivers

Secondly, each adventurer has a specific drive to leave the city the urban setting:

  • The rogue, as the close ally and best friend, desires retribution.
  • The knowledgeable figure knows the region and warns that it is a dangerous environment.
  • Tyranny and The cleric, having resisted his house’s orders to eliminate Teor and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
  • However, their status as important members in the influential clan could help the party access areas they normally couldn’t.
  • Additionally, The grateful character swore a eternal obligation to The cleric for his rescue and will now follow him wherever.

Fugitives

Finally, all of them are hunted by the authorities that rule Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making remaining behind no longer safe:

  • The rogue and The character are known criminals.
  • Tyranny and Wicander defied the influential house and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
  • The fighter is marked for death by House Halovar.

This leaves them little choice but to journey toward the remote area in pursuit of the traitor.

What’s Next?

Based on the latest episode’s follow-up content, we discover that the warrior group will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the rest of the players to assemble the Seekers and Schemers groups.

Viewers can anticipate discovering which characters will be in which group in the story’s concluding setup installment, available to watch on the upcoming Thursday.
