Ten individuals sentenced of online harassment against Brigitte Macron

A French judicial body has convicted ten people for carrying out the cyber-bullying of Brigitte Macron, the partner of French President, Emmanuel Macron.

The accused individuals faced charges of spreading false claims regarding her gender and sexuality, in addition to making malicious remarks about the pair's age disparity of 24 years.

The court delivered suspended prison sentences of a maximum of eight months to the convicted individuals. The full ruling has yet to be released.

A longstanding false narrative suggesting that Brigitte Macron is a person assigned male at birth has existed since her husband's rise to the presidency in 2017.

This latest legal outcome in France coincides with the Macrons pursuing a libel case in the United States of America against right-wing influencer Candace Owens, who has repeatedly shared similar conspiracy theories about the French president's wife's gender.

Their legal filing contends that Owens brushed aside substantial counter-evidence that refuted her assertions opting to platforming known conspiracy theorists.

Owens has regularly repeated these assertions on her show and social media channels, and in March 2024 proclaimed that she would bet her whole career on her insistence that Mrs. Macron is in fact a man.

Brigitte Macron originally became acquainted with her future husband when she was a teacher at his high school.

The couple tied the knot in 2007, when the future French president was 29 and she was approximately 54 years old.
